classic pie dough

Thanks to my dad’s gift of a family recipe box, I have this classic pie dough recipe handed down from my grandma.  It’s tasty, flakey and easy to whip up in no time.
You’ll Need:

1.5 c. flour

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 c. shortening (Crisco now makes a shortening without Trans Fats!)- interested in if you can substitute shortening for butter?

5-6 Tbsp. water

Directions:

Mix flour and salt-blend in shortening with pastry cutter, or paddle attachment and Kitchen Aid mixer.  Add ice water until dough becomes a ball.  Flour surface and roll out to about 1/4 inch.
